Shine By Three
Margaret Zhang is an 18-year-old who isn’t letting her youth get in her way. Law-slash-commerce student by day, fashion blogger by night, Zhang is taken blogging to a whole new level. She started her blog, Shine By Three as something of a visual diary, really an experiment – working on a new media platform. More than anything else it was her passion to do something different.
Shine By Three is “a creative space where I share my personal style; with outfit posts, photography, art, interviews with new and up-and-coming designers, and more recently my styling work”.
The struggle between university and blogging, though, is ever-present: “It absolutely killed me to skip Josh Goot’s SS 12 show at Fashion Week to get home and finish an accounting essay ... I quite enjoy the balance of creativity and structure it gives me. But sure – I did daydream a little seeing the RUSSH team racing around fashion week.”
Shine By Three has opened doors for Zhang: “I’ve been so lucky that the inspirational people I’ve met have allowed me to network in the industry – getting behind the scenes – this is fashion in its reality, not a PR dream ... I wouldn’t have met all those people and made all those connections had it not been the start of my blog." Off its back, she's shot DITA Eyewear’s SS 12 collection and tagged along at New York Fashion Week earlier this year.
Success and achievements aside, Zhang still manages to keep a humble perspective about herself and her work. “I don’t really see myself or the blog as any amazing success – I do this because I love sharing my inspirations ... I pinch myself and feel so honoured to be a part of it all – however small my part might be.”
