Tropical Rebel

The pressure is always on to deliver something mind blowing the second time around. Sophomore albums. Movie sequels. And of course the highly anticipated second collection for any burgeoning fashion designer.
Emma Mulholland’s SS range made an impact as her signature surf style struck a chord with many. As a follow up capsule collection is currently in the midst of being designed and produced, I spent some time with Mulholland in Bali watching her put it all together.
Inspired by Courtney Love, The Craft and Poison Ivy, Mulholland’s second range will surprise many. Absent are the potent colour explosions (well, almost). Instead it takes the wearer on a trip to the darker side of the sea.
“Like my first collection, Tropical Rebel is inspired by the surf and sea,” she tells me. “However while I always try to maintain that surf ethos, the pieces here are a lot darker, drawing on the scarier elements of the ocean.”
The small range also features unisex pieces for boys and girls alike. She shares with RUSSH an exclusive preview of the print that will feature heavily throughout the range. Angry sharks never looked so good.
