Space is the Place

Sun Ra was certainly not of this earth. Physically yes, mentally a whole other place. A galaxy where music grows on trees and the planet looks as though through a shroomed out kaleidoscope, all the time. Touching on space travel and black politics wrapped in a soundtrack of Saturn jazz, a pure trip of crazy sets, truly cosmic costumes and timeless Chicago locations all saturated in dense colour, Space Is The Place does a pretty decent job of boiling Ra’s vision across 40 odd years of output into one 1974 released film.
