Luminous, radiant, dewy. As the new year is upon us, we speak to Cleanskincare Clinics founder Dr Phillipa McCaffery on how to achieve complexion bliss for 2013.
1. Give up smoking
According to research from San Gallicano Dermatological institute in Rome, 42% of smokers suffered from pimples compared to 10% of non-smokers. If women had experienced pimples in their teen years, they were four times as likely to experience pimples as an adult.
2. Stay away from dairy
Dairy is bad for your skin, so try your hardest in the new year to stay away from anything that is dairy-based.
Squinting from the sun creates crow’s feet and lines around your eyes.
4. Oil-free sunscreen
It is important to ensure you are protected with sunscreen all year round – keep it oil-free to ensure no breakouts. Clearskincare has its own range at www.clearskincare.com.au.
5. Sun protection
Sun causes wrinkles so keep your face shaded with a hat at all times.
6. Oil-free makeup
While makeup is fine to cover pimples and blemishes, oil-based makeup is a big no no. And if you’re not sure if your liquid makeup is oil-free, switch to mineral. Mineral powder is much kinder to your pores while still giving you great cover.
7. Try to keep up with your sleep
Too many late nights makes you stressed and these hormones produce testosterone. Numerous studies have linked pimples with stress. It is a linear relationship: the higher the stress, the more pimples you get.
8. Keep some makeup wipes next to your bed
Going out late and not taking your makeup off can have terrible effects to your skin. If you are too tired to take your makeup off, make sure you keep some makeup removing wipes next to your bed at all times!
9. Use active ingredients rather than regular moisturisers
The only things that do stop you from ageing are vitamin A and vitamin C.
10. Book yourself in for a skin peel to even your tone
This is the best way to start the year and refresh your skin.
