The White Stuff
Australian-made, Melbourne-based organic skincare brand GROWN is quickly becoming the new authority in Australian beauty. Their philosophy? A scientific approach to create the best botanical products. And the good news is you don’t need a chemistry degree to understand the benefits. We sat down with GROWN’s Keston Muijs with our most pressing beauty concerns.
We know organic is better for us but is it true that some non-organic products could actually speed up the aging process?
Unfortunately, yes some can. Often our bodies recognise that artificial chemical-based ingredients are incompatible and toxic, increasing production of free radicals in our body and contributing to the anti-aging process.
And why is taking a scientific approach to skincare so important?
Beauty is all about science. Without a sophisticated formulation and unique combination healthy anti-aging skincare wouldn’t exist. Don’t be scared of scientific jargon. Do your research and make sure you’re getting the absolute best.
What are the most important things to consider when choosing products?
Keep it simple and consider three things:
1. Is this skincare good for your health? Does it include natural forms of hyaluronic acid or peptides and exclude potentially harmful ingredients like sulfates, petrochemicals and parabens? Don’t let the scientific jargon fool you. It’s not rocket science; some ingredients in products are good for you and some, unfortunately are bad … So do your research.
2. Is the product formulated with advanced anti-aging active ingredients such as natural healthy forms of hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants?
3. Are you using the right product or beauty régime for your skin type? Oily, dry or combination; it is vital you use the right products.
What is the biggest skincare mistake you regularly come across?
I think mostly women not removing makeup before sleeping, the longer makeup is left on the skin the more potential damage to the skin.
Australian sun is so harsh. What should we do in winter to restore our skin for summer?
At night the skin goes into a cycle of repair … That’s when it is important to provide the skin with the right repair crèmes or serums and imperative to thoroughly remove impurities from the skin that have built up during the day.
Are there any old-school remedies that actually work?
Yes! But you’re likely to groan when I tell you. Drink an appropriate amount of water and avoid too much alcohol and sleep deprivation. See, told you.
And your words to live by…
Healthy, effective, intelligent beauty.
