Strobe

A place where you can get your hair and makeup done at the same time? Yes please. The team at Strobe are there to give you that personalised touch. We speak to Keith Archer, Director of Strobe about winter tips and looks.
Why Strobe?
My aim in starting the salon was to take control of my own creative path. I've always loved the creative side of hair, where you get to design something extraordinary, but I also loved the personal side of working with clients, so having my own salon where I could join both elements was the most logical path for me to take. The salon grew really quickly and I started to work with the international artists who were touring Australia. We were working with the likes of Björk, Scissor Sisters, Black Eyed Peas, Florence and the Machine so we were attracting a lot of interest! Today, we have a great team at Strobe, who are all working on various projects from fashion shoots to education in hair. I love being surrounded by all that diversity, everyone has different passions and ideas. We all bring our own thing to the salon.
What is your best winter hair tip?
Winter brings with it some great opportunities for change in hair. For the brunettes we have been working with warmer tones, using lots of peach and rose tones, that keeps it easy to change as we move into Spring. The best thing at the moment though, is working with the natural movement in hair and this works really well with balayage, a colouring technique to give naturalistic highlights, but focusing on the ends to get that sun faded tone. The top tip for winter is to minimise time on your hair by using the great products that are around, which add texture to the hair giving it more life and making it easier to work with. We recommend the new hair powders which are coming out everywhere that make it easy to mold hair into shapes and don't have that straw texture of normal hairspray. Another must have product is Moroccan Oil as it adds shine and manageability to the hair and a heat protector to look after your hair when straightening, especially in winter when there is so not much moisture around.
What is your best winter makeup tip?
Nude lips with strong brows or flushed cheeks with strong lips and subtle eyes. We have also been playing a lot with lashes. When it comes to hair and makeup, it is about having fun, we follow that trend religiously.
