The Wand

Some days, you need a wand. A wand you’ll wave to give you a touch more time on deadline, to make the impossible possible. Or, maybe, you can be a little more realistic in your aspirations: a wand that will give a more-than-half-decent curl. Cloud Nine’s The Wand – with its long cone-shaped barrel – will do just that.
At this year’s RAFW, The Wand gave us Twin Peaks-inspired waves and now, with its launch to the consumer, they’ve officially freed us from labour-intensive hot rollers and crazy-hot straightening irons. The Wand has a temperature gauge allowing you to opt for a cooler setting for long, loose waves, and for something a little more up tight turn the heat up: think less heat, more style. Plus, comes with a protective two-fingered Michael Jackson glove. (Yes, you read that correctly.)
We caught up with Lauren McCowan, Cloud Nine’s Creative Director, at Paddington’s Oscar Oscar salon for a little lesson in making magic happen. Looking for a Erin Wasson-esque beach wave? Here’s how:
First, blow dry your hair or let it dry however it likes. Once it’s dry, take a large-ish section of your hair. Say, one-sixth of your head’s worth. Wrap this section around the wand, count to five and release (wear your bad-ass glove on the had that’s doing the winding). Now, move through the other sections of your hair. Be sure to wrap some sections forward, others back. Once you’re all done, brush it out with a bristle brush and then shake it out.
