Not that long ago, we met the guys behind 2-Times: the site's founders, directors and brothers Alex and Luke Anton and their womenswear buyer Jes Shoppee. With them, in an air-conditioned meeting room, the conversation ran thick and fast. Where to eat for their last night in Sydney (they're from Melbourne, and: Apollo), and photoshoots gone (almost) wrong in regional Australia. They ran us through what they do and the brands they love and then they promised us this: exclusive shots from their next shoot. So here is it, and here they are.
Where did the idea for 2-TIMES come from? And what actually got you started?
The original idea for 2-TIMES was naturally motivated by the reality that neither one of us had made a single retail purchase with an Australian based company in a very long time.
We were both spending far too much of our time online, and in doing so - quickly realised that at the click of a button, we now had access to an incredible selection of the most innovative retailers all over the world. Retailers who carried an inimitable range of products, which made frequenting our favourite and established stores in Australia, now ‘unnecessary’.
With this, 2-TIMES was born - a Melbourne based multi-faceted luxury retail concept, consisting of a premium online website, complemented by an invitational store existence - incorporating progressive menswear and womenswear.
What do you love most about doing what you do?
We travel the best cities in the world, work with some of the most creative people in the world - and showcase everything that we love. There are no limits.
Why Phoebe English?
Every now and then you meet a designer - in this case, a design duo - of Rose Easton and Phoebe English - that are just incredibly talented people. They draw you in with their personalities - and this 'captivity' is undoubtedly displayed in all of their work.
Walk us through the shoot – what were you listening to? Where did you shoot?
The setting was predominantly inside a close friend’s place, which was right nearby 2-TIMES 's Melbourne studio. It was a horrible day outside, with ridiculously strong winds - really cold, with patchy rain. When we saw a burst of sunshine outside, our photographer Daniel Luxford managed to convince our model to run through the coolest little laneway with him - and we got the most amazing shots!
The music was Onra - with a little bit of Nicolas Jaar - Alex was in charge, so anything could've happened there…
How do you choose the pieces you feature?
This shoot was deliberately dedicated to Phoebe English on 2-TIMES - the natural light shines through the most remarkable ceiling to floor windows in our friend’s place right on 3pm - so the main idea was to showcase a moody selection of Phoebe English's textiles - with a number of raw black and white images.
