So You Say You Want A Revolution
“It takes backbone to lead the life you want.” - Revolutionary Road.
Home, it’s said, is where the heart is. For her AW 13 campaign, Salasai’s Kirsha Whitcher led her team back to one of their own Heartlands – videographer Tay Kaka's nana’s house in Perth.
“Such a good find,” Whitcher tells us. “Tay’s nanna and poppa sat on the kitchen table and watched a large group of strangers walking through their house filming and shooting in all the rooms, and they were so gracious and proud of their grandson, offering us cups of tea and lunch. It was such a nice experience, there were lots of laughs and war time stories.”
For the collection, Whitcher took a cue from Revolutionary Road (Hel-lo Leo). Think “new-found love in old small town America” – it’s all high hopes, heady rushes, and a damning of all consequences. Canary yellows, deep wines, navys and tobaccos, the 50s-esque palette is carefully blocked. Zig zag prints and wide linen cuts for him and her.
And the soundtrack for the day? “Jack White and Johnny Cash."
