Lookbook: bassike SS 12
Appealing to our bassike needs. We caught up with designers Deb Sams and Mary Lou Ryan to get the inside on their latest collection - and share with you the first look at Ollie Henderson for bassike SS 12.
What was the inspiration behind this collection?
We designed SS 12 with the aim to find a balance between sensuous luxury and visual simplicity. We created really simple silhouettes but brought them to life through fabric choice which included leather, buttery silks, and metallic linen as well as our signature organic cotton jersey.
And the colour palette - whites, blacks, that mustard yellow – was this a direct link to your collection inspirations as well?
Definitely. We begin our inspiration with a colour palette. We deliberately kept the palette very clean so as to not detract from silhouettes and fabrics.
What is it about Ollie Henderson that made her a great fit to represent this collection?
We love Ollie. We’ve worked with her a couple of times, but she was particularly good fit for this campaign.
She’s strong, unique and really plays to the creative direction of the shoot – in a sense, the way in which she works is more as a collaborator rather than just a model.
Where do you imagine this collection being worn aside from normal everyday use?
Given that we shot the campaign at the Art Gallery of NSW, let’s say the collection would work well for a day along museum mile in NYC.
What was your music playlist during the designing for this collection?
We listened to a lot of Geoffrey Gurrumul, the indigenous Australian artist.
