Rhyme or reason A day at the polo. All for a good cause of course – all money from the day’s event went to Inala, a Rudolf Steiner organisation supporting individuals with disabilities.
The great escape Kurri Burri Polo Club, Richmond Lowlands. A short drive from Sydney but all the more enjoyable when you have your own chauffeured Jeep there and back again.
You can imagine Kylie and Michael Hutchence here. It’s much more festival than races – no heels and no ‘fussy’ hats.
On arrival The aforementioned Champagne (Veuve Clicquot of course) and Pimms on ice not to mention the breathtaking surrounds of the Kurri Burri property and stables. Plus event founder Adam Marshall on hand to give us a crash course in the rules of the game.
We loved The most delicious buffet, lunch sitting cross-legged on a picnic rug, live music and of course cheering on four rigorous games of polo to the brilliant and hilarious commentary of Rick McCarthy.
We never knew that The polo pony is smaller, leaner and more agile than a race horse and needs to come off the field every seven minutes for a rest.
Next time around We’ll be pre-booking group tickets. This event is best experienced with your favourite people.
