LFW: Stella’s Dinner Theatre

Stella's enchanted evening at London’s historical ‘One Mayfair’ began like a scene out of Sabrina. White linen tables, scented with Lily of the Valley blooms were littered with Truman Capote-style society swans. Their dresses were grand (think Balenciaga, as in Cristóbal), but also exuded a casual ease that may lend themselves to a Slim Aarons’ garden soiree. And so the jazz band began to play.
Seated next to Stella, was a newly blonde Rihanna to the left and a powder blue adorned Anna Wintour to the right. But around the room many fashion butterflies fluttered: Alexa Chung, Laura Bailey, Natalie Massenet, Suzy Menkes, Yasmin Le Bon … The list goes on. Keeping up black tie appearances on the gentleman’s side there was Mario Testino, Hamish Bowles, Derek Blasberg and of course Stella's dashing husband Alasdhair Willis to name a handful.
But enough, nice nice for now. All of a sudden the band is hushed and heavy metal blares from above as magician extraordinaire Hans Klok takes to the stage. After changing his assistant’s outfit in plain sight he next levitates Miss Chung above three knife blades.
Then just as the party begins to quiet back down, mod dancers
(previously disguised as well-dressed dinner guests in Stella’s new lolly-hued printed cocktail frocks) leap from their seats, soon followed by models in lace columns, who are then only eclipsed by Amber Valletta and Yasmin Le Bon joining the performance in their super slinky trompe-l'œil jersey gowns.
