Behind the Scenes: Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

“It tears me down to know that it could be you or I affected; it just shatters me. We’re all in it together ... There’s so many people all around us right now ... People have gotten up so early, taken the time out of their day - the designers, the makeup artists, the hair stylists, everyone - have just given everything that they’ve got for today just so they can know that we’re here to help.”
- Jennifer from Chic (Model on set)There are some things you just have to do, some things you can’t say no to. This was one of them.
It all started with a phone call. We’ve volunteered your services, I was told. You’re going to be the journo to do the presser for this year’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign. You’ve got to rock up to Sun Studios and eat pastries and drink tea, interview the ambassadors, and write a little something-something.
So I did. And I spent the day talking to campaign ambassadors like Gail Elliott (she wears those Acne boots we love so much), along with familiar faces like Jennifer from Chic and a team of all those brilliant people on set who Make Things Happen. Breast cancer, I was told, puts all plans on hold. It’s not the kind of conversation you want to have with anyone. But the chances that you will have to have that conversation are high.
Fashion Targets Breast Cancer is now in its 14th year. I still have the navy blue T-shirt I bought in year God-knows-what in high school. This year, I’m going to buy more. Because when you fork out for an item from the range, 25 per cent of your money will go towards the cause.
