A bassike Summer
RUSSH got an exclusive look at bassike's high summer collection with a short film shot by Australian photographer Beau Grealy, who is now based in New York. I asked bassike designers Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan what they are looking forward to most this summer as they sent through some behind-the-scenes shots of the shoot in New York.
What’s your most vivid memory of summer in Australia growing up?
Deb: Early mornings, it was always dark when we got up, down at Palm Beach with my dad and my two sisters. My dad used to practice karate on the beach with a friend and we would go swimming, make sand castles and play on the rocks while we waited for him. We did this every Saturday morning for years.
Mary Lou: My family loved to get on the road and travel. We would drive all over Australia in our big Chev with the boat on the back. We would find a spot and put the boat in the water and sail around all day.What are you most excited about/ looking forward to this summer?
Mary Lou: A whole summer of possibilities. I love the feeling you get when you know that summer is almost here: the energy is electric.
Deb: Getting in the salt water again every morning and afternoon and spending weekends down the beach with my husband, family, friends and my Pomeranian Butch hidden under our beach umbrella.
What will you be doing for New Year's?
Mary Lou: I am gong camping at Jervis Bay on the east coast with a group of old friends: lots of sun, fishing, swimming, camp fires and music.
Deb: Hmmmm ... Haven't thought about it, but I would say something chilled and local.
What’s your one fail-safe tip for making through a long, hot Australian heatwave?
Mary Lou: bassike oversized tee and a pair of Havaianas.
Deb: Lots of 100 per cent cotton, loose clothing, a good hat and plenty of icy San Pellegrino with lemon.
