It's the perfect comfort in winter and a fresh blend for spring is a great pick-me-up. With the weather warming up we asked Anthia Koullouros, Natropath, Herbalist and founder of OVViO Organic teas what her favourites are for spring.
What tea mixes are great for detoxing and the start of spring?
Teas that contain herbs for liver detoxification such as milk thistle, globe artichoke leaf or dandelion root. Nettle leaf, dandelion leaf and ova ours leaf are great for fluid retention. Calendula flower and burdock root are excellent for skin cleansing. My brand OVViO Organic make a D Tox Bitters tea (gutsy and not for the faint hearted!) and clear Lemon Fresh tea (for overall systemic cleansing).
Is loose leaf tea best? Do you get the same benefit out of tea bags?
Tea bags no doubt offer convenience and for finely ground herbs and spices, a tea bag is a perfect little vessel. Loose leaf tea is suitable for whole herbs or spices (eg a whole leaf of peppermint, cardamon pod, cinnamon quills or clove). These require longer infusion time and room to soak, move and expand to draw out the flavour and therapeutic constituents. This is part of the ceremony of tea drinking especially when infused in a glass tea pot. Visually meditative!
