Put The Lime in The Coconut
So … coconut water. There are varying claims out there about this liquid - some call it a miracle, others dispute its health claims. We asked Monique Bolland of Alkaline Clinic about her thoughts.
"Coconut water, the clear liquid inside young, unripe coconuts, is the latest health craze to sweep Australia. While it’s been available in health food stores for years, young coconut water, both plain and flavoured, is now so popular it’s stocked in major supermarkets and convenience stores across the country. The health claims are abundant and diverse – everything from claims to being an anti ageing miracle, a blood purifier, a digestive aid, to regulating cholesterol. Realistically, it’s high in sugar and sodium, and many of the brands available from the supermarket are full of additives, preservatives and artificial flavours; often containing as much sugar as a can of soda. Coconut water is a good hydrator and is full of natural electrolytes, but make sure you’re drinking the real thing!"
So now to decide for yourself about this liquid. We love it as it is hydrating and delicious, perfect as a sweet afternoon treat. We love C Coconut Water as they get the water straight from young coconuts with no added flavours. Be sure to check your potential purchase to check it has no added nasties.
